ZOMG! I guess I've been spend the last few years in a deep sleep as just today I got to hear this great Portuguese/Angolan group called Buraka Som Sistema, which have worked together with M.I.A. on the track "Sound of Koduro", which is included in both their first LP "Black Diamond" and Mathangi's re-release of "Kala". Apart from this song they have plenty of other amazing dance stuff, which is actually stylistically defined as a renewed version of kuduro, an Angolan dance. Don't think that Buraka Som Sistema make ethno music, despite the inspirations they draw from Brazilian, Portuguese and Angolan cultures. They are a fine cheerful electronic act that fuses elctropop, techno, baile, grime, underground hip-hop and nevertheless lots of fun.
You can listen to their stuff here:

or
"Black Diamond"(LP)
Do no forget to prelisten the albums and if you have liked them to support the band by buying their releases or go their concerts!
Here are a few videos of Buraka Som Sistema:

Теn unappealing album covers
Yesterday I posted ten of my favourite album covers and now it's time for ten more, but this time of my non-favourite. This certainly doesn't mean that they may not appeal to you...it is just that they do not fit my aesthetics for an album artwork. As you may notice most of the covers are from albums issued in the last decade, which I believe is more than an indication that art is becoming of a lesser importance than ever before. Definitely one can find some uglier examples of album covers, only proving that the appearance is not be undermined.

A.R. Rahman & M.I.A.
"O...Saya" is a wonderful collaboration between one the greatest film score composers and probably the most famous Sri Lanka-born singer of our modern time M.I.A. included in the Indian hit movie "Slumdog Millionaire". This song in particular is a fine example of how old India meets the modern times and still preserves its beauty.
Another songs that you can hear in the original soundtrack is the DFA remix of the M.I.A. hit single "Paper Planes". In the film you can hear the original version as well and the best thing is that both songs suit the whole atmosphere pretty well.
The rest of the album is a fine mixture between catchy Indian tunes, some fine beats and modern influences throughout the soundtrack.
